Introduction
In 1607 Virginia took place as the first colonial settlement. One hundred and sixty long years went by and the colonies remained under British control. Then, as the first disturbance toward the piece between them, the British began taxing the Colonists and violence started. In 1774 John Hancock proposed that the colonists should break free from British control seeing that King George only continued to ignore their complaints rather then deal with them. The colonists began to rebel and when the king got word of what was happening he sent secrete word to General Thomas Gage, the royal governor of Massachusetts, on April 14, 1775 commanding him to strike the Massachusetts rebels. On the night of April 18, 1775 British troops were sent to arrest Samuel Adams and John Handcock then continue on to Concord and destroy the American Military supply. Major John Pitcairn, one of General Gage's officers, predicted that the Americans would run in cowardice. The Patriots, or rebels, were definitly outnumbered and did not have any training in fighting except for their hunting skills. Thus, the Americans themselves were not so sure they could face the British either.
This is the American flag during British control.
This is the American flag after British control.. There is one stare for each colony. The flag was sown by Betsy Ross.
